The White Villa was a place where the writer Balys Sruoga was treated for some time after his return from the Stutthof concentration camp. Having survived two years of nightmarish exile in Stutthof, the professor arrived in Birštonas in poor health. In just three months at the resort, he wrote his ironic memoirs of his experiences there: in Birštonas he wrote the famous "Forest of the Gods". Instead of trying to improve his failing health, Sruoga wrote for 10-12 hours every day.
Today, a grey stone bust commemorates Sruoga's time in Birštonas. Sruoga, a well-known Lithuanian writer from the twentieth century, enjoyed walking along Birštonas' trails. Interesting fact: the bust is the same height as the writer - 190 cm.
