The monument commemorates that Birštonas was a place of refuge for the man who made the GDL the most powerful state in Europe during the Middle Ages. The pink granite for the sculpture was brought from the historic lands of the GDL in Ukraine. The stony Vytautas looks thoughtfully at the Nemunas River, its majesty and flow, radiating royal strength and self-confidence. Vytautas is one of the rulers who managed to unite different nations in a common struggle against a powerful enemy.
