A man, most likely the devil, who had transformed into a gentleman passed past Kaunas' Vytautas church. He noticed an old, exhausted man sitting and snoozing on the church's border. He approached him and asked:

- Perhaps you know where to find the sacristan of the Vytautas Church?

It turned out that the old man was a sacristan. The gentleman promptly asked to bring a quart of vodka and promised to pay generously. The old man delivered vodka to the gentleman without waiting. When it came to payment, the sacristan whined about being impoverished and raising five daughters with little to wear and no dowry. The gentleman told the sacristan to take the church's keys and follow his lead. After entering the Vytautas church, they both came to a halt on the left side. The guy blinded the sacristan with a scarf and led him left, right, up, and down by accident, leaving him unsure where he was.

After leading him everywhere, he led the sacristan to some dungeon and untied the scarf from his eyes. After lighting the candle, the old man saw that he was in a narrow, long dungeon, the walls of which had many small doors. A gentleman opened such a door, took out a golden monstrance, handed it to the sacristan and again covered his eyes with a scarf. The gentleman began to collect money from somewhere and filled the sacristan's pockets with gold coins saying: "Now that money will be enough for you and your daughters. But don't be stupid and don't tell anyone, since you'll not only lose money, but you'll also get in trouble.”

After receiving a firm promise of silence from the sacristan, the master led him out of the dungeons, untied the scarf from on eyes and let him go. He went his own way. Eventually, the authorities found out about the sacristan's enrichment and arrested him. Although the money was already low, they asked to show them the secret dungeons of the church. The man could not do it, because he himself did not know where they were. After the sacristan's death, the hidden treasures were simply forgotten.
