In the Middle Ages, torture was used as a means of punishment, interrogation and deterrence, usually taking the life of the victim. It's easy to think of ourselves as more humane these days, but while most of the devices discussed below are no longer in use, some are still used to punish criminals. The information is suitable for people with stronger nerves.
Head crusher. After placing the head in the upper part of the device and the chin in the lower part, the screw at the top was turned little by little until it began to press on the skull. First of all, the teeth were affected - they began splitting and crumbled into the jaw. Then the eyes popped out of the sockets...
A cat's paw was often attached to a stick. It resembled an extension of an executioner's arm in size and appearance. This iron sharpening tool was used to severely score or tear the flesh from the bones of any part of the body.
Knee breaker. The name of the popular Inquisition-era tool perfectly captures the damage it inflicts: the knee breaker would crush the victim's knees, crippling them permanently.
Scavenger daughter. It's a "A"-shaped metal martyr, with the victim's head on top, arms in the middle, and legs in the bottom. The victim's head was pressed down, and the knees were pressed up, causing the nose and eyes to bleed due to the intense pressure.
Judas's chair. This type of torture has remained mostly unchanged from the Middle Ages to the present. The victim is elevated and positioned on the pyramid's top, with all of their weight falling on a particular area of the body, such as the anus, vagina, under the scrotum, or spine (at the final two or three vertebrae).
Choking pars These torture weapons came in a variety of sizes and were designed to injure different parts of the human body. An elongated iron tool was brutally inserted into the mouth, exit hole, or vagina, where it expanded with great force using a screw, irreversibly injuring the interior of the relevant body cavity, usually fatally. The device's sharp edges were used to shred the throat, intestines, and cervix. A pear fitted to the mouth was used to punish heretics or establish guilt for unorthodox tendencies; the pear for the exit hole awaited homosexual males, while the one for the vagina awaited ladies accused of having sexual relations with Satan.
The breast ripper was a device that was heated to red hot and used to mark the breasts of unmarried mothers. It was mostly used to punish women who were accused of heresy, blasphemy, adultery, attempting to obtain an abortion, or practising erotic white magic.
Crocodile scissors are generally offered to individuals who dare to threaten the king's life. This clipper was constructed of iron and was designed to resemble tongs. Instead of the normal folding blades, there were a pair of half-cylinders at the end of the instrument, which, when the "jaws" closed, created a long, narrow opening. The inside of the latter was filled with sharp teeth and spines. When the crocodile scissors became red hot, the criminal's penis was severed with the weapon, which, in addition to being severely stabbed, was torn from the body or left behind as the victim bled to death.
