Kaunas is the only Lithuanian city with a direct link to the Hanseatic League. Under the reign of Casimir Jogailaitis, Kaunas established the Hanseatic City Merchants' Court, which had the authority to maintain warehouses in the city, and the court's statutes date back to 1470. The outstanding historic warehouses of products, known as "Hanseatic warehouses," represent this union's political and cultural splendour. They are situated at the intersections of Muziejus and Santaka streets, on both sides of Muziejus Street, overlooking the street with their rear facades.

In the 17th century, Agnė, a widow merchant, ran the town's stores. She did not respond to any letters sent by the authorities and simply ripped them. Once, the auditor, accompanied by the gendarmes, brought the tax sheet and presented it to Mrs. Agne. The merchant wanted to do what she always did with the sheet: tear it up. The soldier quickly grabbed her hand, which was unusual for such a bossy and assertive woman. She escaped the man's grip and struck the soldier in the face. She was hauled to town hall prison and given her punishment in the jumpers' gallery. She was sentenced to have the arm with which she had struck the government agent severed at the elbow. The merchant died, and her ghost still roams the warehouses, yearning for company... So, if you see drops of blood along the route, know that this is where Mrs. Agne walked...
