The first courtyard of the castle is behind the 18th-century gate, which dates back to the time of Maria Theresa of Austria. It is preceded by huge stone sculptures of titans in the grip.
The monumental entrance is called the Matthias Gate after the emperor who built it in the early 17th century. Some of its architectural elements were inspired by the Italian Renaissance. Like the other two entrances to the castle, it is guarded by an armed guard: it should be remembered that the castle can be closed to visitors during official ceremonies or when important guests are present. The guards are also changed every hour, and this solemn mini ceremony attracts a large number of tourists and curious locals.
There are three entrances to the castle and, as in medieval times, they are closed for six hours at night, completely isolating the castle and all its inhabitants (real or imaginary) from the rest of the world.
