It is a hybrid of a rooster and a lizard, a fabled species found throughout Europe. She determined people's fates by opening her eye and revealing their past or future disasters, after which that person died or committed suicide.

The monster's victims were always reckless citizens out for a walk, speeding and shortening the route, or lovers, as they are today, having dates on the ruins of the walls. The basilisk's primary hiding place is believed to be in the underground level of the brick house, which is now in ruins. Attaching a mirror to the jacket's lapels gave protection from the beast.

There was a case when a convicted person was thrown to the basilisk in the dungeon for punishment. After a few days, the convict came out of the dungeon and died. Although the man himself seemed to have been there for only a few moments...

The monster was defeated by the young man who showed the basilisk a mirror, as his own sight was lethal. According to folklore, a basilisk residing in the cellars could kill anyone it spotted in its path with a single glance. But once, a young man armed with a giant mirror descended into the basilisk-guarded cellars. The basilisk quickly attacked its victim while also killing itself, as seen in the young man's mirror. This is how the smart young guy saved the city's residents from certain death. This legend is spread throughout Warsaw, Vilnius, and, of course, Kaunas. The only way to defend oneself is to use a mirror. It wasn't a coincidence that it was worn on lapels back then.
