The Birštonas Museum began with a collection of ethnographic and historical artifacts, papers, photographs, and written materials collected by geography teacher Petras Kazlauskas and local historians from the secondary school. The exhibition took place in June 1966 at the "Tulpė" sanatorium during the ceremony of granting Birštonas the powers of a republican subordinate town - a health resort.
After a long process of negotiations, the premises for the museum were found. It was the summer villa "Ramunė" of the "Tulpė" sanatorium, built in 1932. Teachers used to stay here in the summer. At the same time, the museum was being built and the exhibits were intensively collected.
